Christmas day is full of joy and sparkle and if you are hosting this year do not despair if you are short on time and ideas.

Here at Evoke Interior Decorating I share my tips for a fresh and inviting Christmas tablescape.

With an array of table linens and Christmas decor to choose from online and in store, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes time to adorn your table top.

I am excited for you to explore but before you do read on and ease into the festive season with confidence with my quick article.

First things first, it is your place your rules so consider and take control and ensure your guests are well thought after with personalised place cards. This is welcomed because most often than not guests will ask the hosts "where shall I sit?". This enables everyone to take their place easily so they waste no time getting into the delectable feast ahead.

I like to find unique ways to style a Christmas table, but I must confess I like a traditional themed setting. It is striking and bold. Get creative and think outside the box and pair with contrasting decor. You can still keep a classic theme of green, red and gold, but do try different meshes of patterns to bring an extra element of texture. If you are going for a busy table cloth, pair with simple napkins or vice versa.

If you are having candles keep them at a sensible length so your guests can still enjoy a conversation. Flickering flameless candles or tea lights are a great way to set the ambience without heat or risk, and remarkably you do still get the same affect.

A garland for your table can be made up from your herb garden. However, if you want to earn creative points your appetiser/antipasto in the shape of a wreath can be a talking point and take the place of a garland. There are plenty of examples on Instagram if you search!

Christmas wouldn't be the same without baubles, but they are not just for your tree, use them for bowls or vases scattered around the home or on top of your serving plate or napkin. Plastic rather than glass is recommended. Offer the baubles as a small gift to take home.

Cutlery and glassware is important and any type is suitable, just make sure it gleams (keep the paper cups for the kids or really large groups).

Christmas is all about sharing time with the people we love and not so much about what you serve up, but rather who is around the table. So, investing in some sparkle and charm is key for a wonderful and memorable Christmas with your loved ones.

Merry Christmas!
