An Interview with Tashi Tsering, creative head and founder of Tashi Studio, an online print design studio based in Spain.
Tashi Studio caters to retail brands across the globe, both in home interiors and apparel.
Tashi has an eclectic knowledge on conceptualisation and development of print designs that are unique and luxurious in terms of details and colours. Tashi’s work ranges from designing wallpapers, bedding, and home accessories to collaborating with interior designers and architects to cater to their exclusive needs in the surface design industry.
What led you to start your own design studio?
I have always been passionate about having my own design studio and hence after many years of working in the home décor and fashion industry as a print designer, I decided to go solo and start freelancing. Slowly this led me to start my own design studio.
Where in Spain are you based?
I am based out of Alcoy, a small town in the province of Alicante.
Where do you take your inspiration from?
My inspiration comes from so many different places, especially designs from the past or art forms from different cultural backgrounds. I have always been so passionate about different styles of pattern designs since my college days and hence started experimenting with many different styles of work. The constant learning helps me improve my craft, and this encourages me to create and experiment with a variety of styles and is a huge part of what I do.
How would you describe your interior style aesthetically speaking?
Contrary to my designs, I think I lean more towards minimal aesthetics, but with a splash of something vibrant.
You have an alluring and vast collection, and you demonstrate it with different mock ups on your website. How does this approach cater in assisting your clients visualise their brand/product?
A product mockup can completely bring to life a 2 dimensional pattern design which helps the client visualise the print design on their products once it has been printed. In our studio, we present our patterns on a variety of product mockups especially created by the Creatsy team.
Which industry are your designs more relevant to?
In general, I think Fashion, Home Decor industry including wallpapers is the most relevant. For example, in my opinion, I find wallpapering is the most relevant and marketable.
How has Tashi Quintessential Design evolved since commencement?
It has evolved at quite a steady pace, but I have a long way to go still. In terms of learning, I have learnt a lot, personally there is so much to learn from just running Tashi Studio!
What is Tashi Design Studio’s ethos?
Right off the bat, these few points relate to the ethos of my company/design studio:
· A commitment to delivering high-quality designs and services that exceed customer expectations.
· A strong belief in building genuine and meaningful relationships with customers, partners, and employees.
· Dedication to continuous improvement and ongoing learning to maintain our high standards.
· An emphasis on ethical business practices, teamwork, collaboration, and mutual respect.
How does Tashi Design Studio contribute to minimise environmental footprint?
I try to do my best and so does my team in playing a part in reducing our environmental carbon foot print daily, especially when it comes to personal consumption and use of products. Both at office and otherwise, we make a conscious effort to minimise wastage in all aspects of our lives, as we believe that every small step towards sustainability can make a positive impact on environment.
When you are not creating and doing your magic, how do you spend your time?
I usually travel or hangout with my friends and family as much as possible when I am not working.
What inspires you and what is the vision for the future for Tashi Design Studio?
At this stage, what inspires me the most is the constant strive to become better at what I do, learn, and grow in terms of business and personally. Right now, my vision is to make Tashi Studio one of the best Print Design studios where all types of brands can shop for high quality and unique print patterns for their products.
Is the Australian market captivating and embracing your designs?
The Australian market has caught my attention. I've noticed that several retailers have incorporated my designs into their products across different categories, and the fact that they've had re-runs suggests they're doing well!
