Simplicity at its finest is how I would describe Japandi. It is a meld of harmonious and grounding Japanese interior design, infused with the functional and visually appealing Scandinavian style.

So why are people gravitating to Japandi you may wonder. Most likely because it can make you feel connected to nature. It exhibits important characteristics of Japanese sleekness and mindfulness wrapped up beautifully in Scandi design.

Japanese sleekness and Scandinavian design

Japandi is on everyone’s lips and gaining lots of attention. It is not meant to be a quick budget friendly style. Whilst it doesn’t have to be high-end all the way, it requires quality over quantity, and calming over clutter.

With the use of sustainable materials, Japandi interiors focus on environmentally friendly furniture that will stand the test of time. After all, we all want what is good for the planet and our family. We want it to last.

Ten key essentials to invest in:

1.    A fusion of neutral colours and textures.

2.    Use black as your accent colour for warmth.

3.    Quality low lying furniture where possible.

4.    Simplicity - put your ‘less is more' hat on.

5.    Clean lines.

6.    Functional furniture and homewares.

7.    Natural materials of wool, linen, or cotton.

8.    Live plants.

9.    Low lighting, like pendants.

10.  Abstract art work in neutral tones.

Balance of neutral colours and texture.

What to avoid:

1.    Bright loud colours that interfere with harmony in your space.

2.   Cluttering objects.

3.   Glass or plastic.

Less is more.

This is my go-to style when a brief calls for something dependable and well-grounded.

Japandi will not only expand your interior mind but it will calm it in every way possible.
